Are you seeking baptism for yourself or your child?

St Andrew’s South Brisbane clergy offer baptism of adult believers and children whose parent(s) and godparents make promises on behalf of their child.

Baptisms of adults and children usually take place during one of our normal Sunday services.

About baptism at St Andrew’s South Brisbane

Before the baptism takes place, adults and the sponsors of children (parent/s and godparents) must satisfy the following preparation requirements:

  • Have been through a short introduction to Christianity, of at least four 45-minute meetings.
  • Have attended at least six church services at St Andrew’s South Brisbane over the six months before the baptism.

If you currently live interstate or at some distance from St Andrew’s South Brisbane, we offer baptism during one of our normal Sunday services to children whose sponsors (parent/s or godparents) have satisfied the following preparation requirement:

  • Provide a letter or email from their local Anglican Church stating that they are regular members of that congregation and that they have been adequately prepared for baptism.

During the baptism service you will be asked to make promises yourself (adult baptism) or on behalf of your child (infant baptism), stating that:

  • You turn to Christ
  • You are willing to be a member, or bring up your child as a member, of the Church.

These promises are explained to you in more detail during your preparation for baptism.

We want to encourage you to keep these promises.
