Did you know there are various verses in the Bible that talk about dance as a way to praise and worship our Lord? Here are just a few:
Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre! (Psalm 149:3)
Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with tambourines and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.(Jeremiah 31:4)
A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance… (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
The Dance fellowship at St Andrew’s South Brisbane is about praise dancing that incorporates music and movement as a form of worship by using our whole bodies to express the word and spirit of God.
Dances are sometimes choreographed but are usually spontaneous. During the fellowship meeting you also have the use of scarfs, ribbons, tambourines or other items.
After warming up with some stretching exercises, the Christian music we dance to varies from slow and mediative to contemporary and faster paced, so it is your choice which ones you want to participate in.
The songs and words to the songs are emailed out about a week before we meet, giving you time to listen and learn them if you don’t already know them. Please note your song suggestions are encouraged and always welcomed.
Dancers can be old or young, male or female, experienced or novice. Anyone who feels spiritual joy and wants to express it through dance can join in.
At special times in the Christian calendar (such as Easter, Pentecost and Christmas) there is opportunity to participate in choreographed pieces that are shared with the congregation during services.
Dance fellowship is held in the church at St Andrews from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on the 1st Sunday of each month. We look forward to you joining us.
